About us

The Children and Youth Revindication Movement, also known as Mirim-Brasil, is a sociopolitical, nonpartisan, and not-for-profit organization that acts towards the fulfillment of the rights of children and adolescents, in accordance with the Statute of the Child and Adolescent, Brazilian Law n. 8.069 of 13 July 1990, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, declared by the United Nations (UN) on 20 November 1989.

In saying that Mirim-Brasil is an NGO (nongovernmental organization), we are affirming our political commitment to social issues, calling upon civil society to become aware of itself in the process of demanding its rights and activating citizenship. In acting in the field of children’s and adolescents’ rights, we want to combat inequalities and stimulate citizenship participation for a true democratization of our society. Equality, solidarity, justice, participation, compromise, and respect are some of the principles and values that guide the day-to-day of our struggle.

With this perspective it is important to affirm that Mirim-Brasil’s relationship to governmental action is focused on the monitoring of public policies, keeping a vision towards the universality of our actions, the construction of community activism, the democratization of the state and civil society, and transparency in the use of public resources. Relationships with businesses are formed grounded by the necessity to reaffirm our practice of citizenship, incentivizing ethical responsibility and transparency.

Our purpose is to work in partnership, with autonomy – knowing how to accept and cooperate –, but also how to resist, question, propose, and innovate. As organized civil society, we must contribute to the reaffirmation of the notion that politics should not be considered a vertical relationship, but rather a space for negotiation and debate.
